Food Hamper Program

Our Food Hamper Program provides up to 12 food hampers per year for individuals and families in need. Each hamper contains fresh produce, dairy, frozen meat, non-perishable food, and personal care items. Non-food essentials are included when available. 

Who Can Access This Program?

  • Residents of Okotoks, Aldersyde, Davisburg, and parts of the MD of Foothills. No referral is needed—you can self-refer.
  • Basic information, including your current income type, is required to determine eligibility and register. You must provide ID for all household members and proof of address. Additional verification may be required.

 

What You’ll need:

  • Government-issued photo ID for all household members.
  • Proof of current address.
  • Current income information (employment, EI, AISH, CPP, etc.).

How It Works

Book an appointment in person or by phone.

If you’re late or unable to attend, please call as soon as possible to reschedule. Hampers are available once per month, up to 12 times per year.

Pick up your hamper at your scheduled time.

Help Yourself Shelf

Who Can Access This Program?

  • Okotoks residents – up to 2 times/week (no visits the week you receive your hamper).
  • High River residents 1 time/week.
  • Diamond Valley residents – 1 time/week.
  • Calgary residents are not eligible.

What’s Included:

  • The items available will change based on what we receive as donations. Along with dry and canned goods, we also offer fresh produce, dairy, frozen meat, non-perishable food, and personal care items, depending on what’s available.
  • Please note some items are past the best before date. We follow Food Banks Canada food safety guidelines. These products often stay safe to eat past their best before date but should be inspected for signs (and smells) of spoilage.

    How It Works

    Visit door 118 during HYS shelf hours. If a sandwich board is outside (30 minutes before opening), take a number and wait to be called.

    Bring photo ID with proof of address (a rental agreement or current bill can be accepted
    along with photo ID, when needed). If it’s your first visit, let us know and we can give you more details.

    One adult (18+) per household may access the program. Children under 10 may accompany an adult. Bring a reusable bag for your groceries.

    Baby Hamper Program

    The Baby Hamper Program supports families and babies by providing most needed items and educational materials. Baby Hampers are custom built as best as possible to meet the needs.

    Who Can Access This Program? 

    • Clients who are registered for the Hamper Program and have a baby between 0-24 months are eligible for Baby Hampers.
    • Baby Hampers are available twice per month with 24 hours notice.

    What You’ll Need: 

    • Call to request your hamper at least 24 hours in advance.

    What’s Included (as available):

    • Baby Hampers can include items like diapers, wipes, Formula, Baby Food, Baby Cereal, Baby Snacks, Non-Food Items – lotion, soap, shampoo, detergent.
    • Educational Materials, like how to introduce solid foods around 6 months, how to make your own baby food, baby food recipes.  Free online classes are available through Alberta Health Services.

    Pick up your customized baby hamper on scheduled day.

    Prenatal Hamper Program

    The Prenatal Program supports pregnant women needing extra food supporting during pregnancy.

    Who Can Access This Program?

    Clients who are registered for the Hamper Program and who are pregnant can access the Prenatal Program.

    What You’ll Need:

    • Register by calling (403)651-6629.

    What’s Included:

    • Prenatal hampers include extra milk, eggs and produce, in addition to the regular items provided in the Hamper Program.
    • Prenatal hampers are available twice per month through pregnancy and up to 2 months postpartum.

     

     

    How It Works

    Appointments can be booked by phone or in person.

    Customize hamper based on family size and prenatal nutrition guidelines.

    3

    Pick up your prenatal hamper on Tuesday afternoon or Friday.

    Fruit & Veggie Pac Program

    A fresh produce option for smaller households, available monthly.

    Who Can Access This Program?

    • Clients registered for the Hamper Program and who are either. singles, seniors or live in a 2-member household are eligible for Fruit and Veggie Pacs.
    • Fruit and Veggie Pacs are available once per month, up to 12 times a year.

    What You’ll Need:

    • Must be a registered client.
    • Register by Wednesday for Friday pickup.

    What’s Included:

    • Fruit and Veggie Pacs contain a variety of fruits and vegetables in smaller quantities than what is in a regular food hamper. Produce will vary each month depending on availability and season.  

     

    How It Works

    Book an appointment by phone or in person; 24 hours notice is required.

    We prepare a produce pac (based on seasonal availability).

    Pick up veggie pac on Friday from 2-4 pm.
